New Horizons (Feature heading)
The recent economic downfall has made us sit down and reflect over the various types of economic systems. This analytical study can help us find out a way to a people-oriented economic system guided by general welfare.
Till now, humanity has conceived two economic systems for its well being. The first one is analytical economics and the second one is symbiotic economics. What is analytical economics? In analytical economics, the concept starts from the state and ends with the individual. If the state is prosperous and if the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) or the foreign exchange reserves are increasing, this will be treated as a measure of the welfare of the citizens. Analytical economics is always calculated in terms of the increase of GDP or the foreign exchanges reserves and the lowering of inflation is also regarded as the indicator of the health of the nation and consequently that of the people of the country.

Both Capitalism and Communism have failed to deliver to the masses. They made big promises but could not fulfil them. Instead, their followers have exploited humanity in all possible ways, always justifying their act. What the world wants today is an alternative economic system, which can correct the past mistakes and bring about a bright future.
One of the necessary factors in the development of a healthy society is a proper socio-economic theory. In any age, people have to come to grips with the question as to how the resources of the country are to be utilised and allocated. In addition, society needs to arrange a system of Government, which can meet the needs and aspirations of all its people.

PROUT: A New Paradigm of Development |

PROUT

Written by Ravi Logan
|
PROUT is a new socio-economic theory intended to create opportunity for every human being to develop and constructively express their full potential.
Current systems of social development are unable to provide this opportunity. They do not even have the capacity to ensure to all peace, equity, sustainability, basic necessities, and social unity required for a basic human existence. No simple reform can change this, as their defects are inherent in the fundamentals of their ideology.

It has been long recognized that humans possess four basic longings viz., ka'ma (physical longing); artha (psychic longing); dharma (psycho-spiritual longing) and moks'a (spiritual longing). Human beings are 'sentimental' beings. They share many instincts with other creatures but also possess some developed emotions and capabilities which put them on a special pedestal among the wide spectrum of species in this universe.

Bhajahari was the name of a rich landlord’s newly appointed domestic
assistant. One day at noon the landlord told him, “Hey, Bhaja, go and
prepare my bath.” After a while Bhajahari returned and declared,
“Everything’s ready, sir.” The landlord went to the bathroom and was
astonished to see that all Bhajahari had done was to put a few buckets
of water on the floor. “Bhaja, come here,” he shouted. “Listen to
me carefully. You must be more methodical when you do something. You
must plan ahead, do you understand?” “Yes sir,” he replied. “Tell me what you’ve understood,” said the landlord. “When I do something I must plan ahead and be methodical,” replied Bhajahari.

In democratic countries the party in power tries to propagate their party ideals through the educational system. They prescribe only those text books which coincide with their party ideals. The universities are forced to surrender before the government because of their financial dependency. The Proutist movement will have to make the universities and educational institutions free from dirty party politics, otherwise the educational system will go on changing according to the rise or fall of different party governments. The duty of the government is to finance the universities and not to interfere in their internal affairs. The broadcasting system, too, should be free from government control.

PROUT
|
PROUT is an acronym for the Progressive
Utilization Theory. Conceptualized in 1959 by Indian Philosopher
Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar, PROUT is a viable alternative to the outmoded
capitalist and communist Socio-economic paradigms. Neither of these
approaches has adequately met the physical, mental and spiritual needs
of humanity. PROUT seeks a harmonious balance between economic growth,
social development and cultural expression. Combining the wisdom
of spirituality, the struggle for self-reliance, and the sprite of
economic democracy, Proutist intellectuals and activists are attempting
to create a new civilizational discourse. PROUT news-magazine aims at
conveying comprehensive and visionary goals of PROUT theory.
