AMURT SERVING CYCLONE AFFECTED PEOPLE

Ananda Marga Universal Relief Team did a commendable job while serving the people devastated by the killer cyclone ‘AILA’ that affected millions of people at Sunderbans of North & South 24 Parganas in South Bengal. Hundreds and thousands of people became homeless.

Since then, eight sannyasis and 12 volunteers of AMURT have been running free medical centres, both Alopathic and Homeopathic there. They have been distributing bleaching powder, baby food and drinking water in three blocks i.e. Namkhana, Pathar Prathima of south 24 Parganas and Sandesh Khali Block – 2 of North 24 Parganas. Everyday 5000 people have been receving relief.

Ravaged by ‘AILA’ on Monday, its people now spend their nights on the road under the open sky. Floating carcasses and rotting fish all around have created a nightmare in the affected areas. There are chances of epidemic to break out for want of large quantity of bleaching powder and halogen tablets.

To check epidemic and other water borne diseases, AMURT has decided to extend its medical services to other parts of Sunderban areas also. The organisation has also decided to construct temporary houses for the homeless at Sandeshkhali.
